Growing Up.

June 1, 2018

When your kid is little, and surrounded by a bunch of other littles, running and giggling on the playground, working together on the 100s board in Montessori, or singing together at the school concert, you can't imagine them becoming young adults. You revel in their innocence and giddiness. You relish the big hugs and toothy grins. Then, suddenly, one day your kid is grown and about to graduate high school. You're touring colleges, scheduling senior portraits, and listening to their plans for decorating their dorm. You feel a sense of loss, as well as a sense of excitement for what their future will bring.
The same goes for when I see the littles of my friends. How can sweet Sara, or little Sean, be young adults already? Part of me still thinks of them as 5 year olds. But time does go on and they grow up. Just like your kid did.
And you have to be happy - these are great kids becoming great young adults.
Time goes on. And that's not always a bad thing.
